Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Out Of The Shadows Trailer 1 Review

Posted on

“Michael Bay comes back to ass rape our childhood once again with the sequel to his first movie; ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’. The CGI has clearly not gotten better it seems…”

Shalom moviegoers & turtle lovers alike, Matt Gives You His Review here and keeping with the going theme at the moment of ‘mutants’ and what not, i thought it about time i came out and laid out my thoughts of the trailer for the upcoming Michael Bay sequel for the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles’; ‘Out Of The Shadows’. I need to be honest here, i f***ing hate Michael Bay and have never liked a single project he has done. Ive never watched the Transformers series and ive certainly not seen the first ‘TMNT’ he did. I like the ‘TMNT’, i was a fan of their 2003 Nicktoon series and their CG movie released around that time. When I heard Michael Bay of all people was spearheading this reboot movie i more than cringed at the news, and when i saw the trailer for it i more than cringed further. I never liked the designs for the turtles, felt the movie was a CGI Transformers rip-off fest and was completly baffled by the hiring of Megan Fox as April O’Neil, so i didn’t see it. I was even more baffled when there were people who were coming out saying the movie was ok, decent, good even (the liars). Whatever the case it got Michael Bay the opportunity to do another one and here we are. To this trailer’s credit i will say i do dig the sorta retro feel it has about it, bringing in Stephen Amell as Casey Jones a good choice and introducing to the big screen the ‘Turtle Van’ for the first time. Even Shredder returning but this time as an ACTUAL human was welcome to see rather than the Transformer version we got last time.

However everything else about this trailer does nothing for me. The overblown obvious CGI, those awful turtle designs, Megan f***ing Fox and Will Arnett AGAIN?!?!?! Yeah, i’m not interested Mr Bay and no amount of titty shots, CGI monsters or Will ‘Hey i used to be funny but here im jus a creepy prev’ Arnett is going to ever change that. So with no investment nor interest to see this will there even be a review of this movie? I couldn’t say. Part of me hopes I will not be subjected to this but if for whatever reason I do see this i’ll be more than happy to tear this movie a new one in a review, or praise it for what it is if this shockingly is any good. But how about youse you ninja cinemagoers? Are you keen for another Michael Bay movie (why would you?) or do you have some sense and let your wallet do your talking by not seeing this movie? Time will tell of course but please don’t be hesitant to let me know any which way you feel on the subject matter. This has been Matt, i’ve still got a long way to go trailer wise but it always gets less n less the more trailer reviews i end up doing. Stay tuned for the next one soon and not to mention other movie reviews as well…

The Revenant Review

Posted on Updated on

revenant-leo.jpg

“Severely wounded from a grizzly attack and thought a lost cause, his son murdered in front of him and himself shallowly buried & left for dead Leonardo DiCaprio will now fight to overcome death & the elements, all in the name of one thing against the man who did this to him; REVENGE…”

Shalom fellow moviegoers. I be Matt Gives You His Review. here to as promised in the previous review, give my review for Leonardo DiCaprio’s latest outing on the big screen; ‘The Revenant’. Has Leo scored himself an award winning performance with this loosely based on true events Western-esque ‘revenge’ film? Or is this a movie doomed to succumb to its overhype & overpraise? Well put on your warmest bear fur coat and prepare to face the elements as we persevere on to find out…

“In 1823 a party of hunters & trappers who hunt for pelts off animals in an uninhabited American wilderness are attacked by Native American Indians and are forced to return back to their settlement with little gain. While scouting ahead one day, scout Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is attacked & mauled by a mother grizzly bear which leaves him severely wounded & debilitated. The party of hunters attempt to carry the injured Glass with them but find him only slowing them down, thus forcing the young Captain Andrew Henry (Domhnall Gleeson) to leave some volunteered men behind. The men of which consisting of Glass’s son Hawk (Forrest Goodluck), a young Jim Bridger (Will Poulter) & a hunter with his own agenda John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy), are left to watch over Glass til he passes away & to give him a proper burial. John, unwilling to wait for the inevitable to happen attempts to quietly kill Glass but ends up being caught in the act by Glass’s son and ends up killing him instead. Pretending that the Indians are about to attack, John & Jim bury Glass in a shallow grave, leaving him to die. Glass however recovers from his wounds somewhat and begins the long crawl for revenge back to the Fort in search of John Fitzgerald, all the while John convincing everyone at home that they did right by Glass and buried him after he died. With the elements, other hunting groups & Indians against him, can Glass survive all challenges, find John again and get his vengeance? Will the other hunters ever find out the truth of what John did to Glass & Hawk? How far will the human body push itself beyond its limit to right a wrong that was committed?…”

So along with ‘The Hateful Eight‘, this was the other movie I was most looking forward to this month that was originally scheduled to come out last year. Praise and acclaim have surrounded this flick and honeslty, they are right to do so. The movie is a visual cinematic marvel that I hope will become a classic in its own right for audiences everywhere and become something one watches time after time (the film is definitely deserving of this honor in my opinion). Much like the previous movie reviewed, there is not a lot to say against this movie, albeit again maybe the film’s duration, but everything going for it. The movie is directed by the acclaimed director of ‘Birdman’, Alejandro González Iñárritu, and honestly i look forward to whatever this man shows us next cause if both ‘Birdman’ and ‘The Revenant’ are anything to go by, the man sure knows how to make a visually pleasing bit of work. Not only that but he seems to have a passion for the art like someone ironically enough as Quentin Tarantino, in the methods they go to get their shots for the movie’s and the execution of their final copy of their films. I hope this is a director that is here to stay for awhile yet.

Not only is the man directing the camera brilliant but the cast in front are just as perfect and well performed here too. Leonardo DiCaprio gives one of his greatest performances yet and i am glad the man is getting some recognition for it in the award giving business, his earned it here. Just the ammount of pressure, pain and drama this man will put himself through in a role is truly inspiring and worth credit where credit is due. Not only that but Tom Hardy does brilliantly also as the selfish John Fritzgerald, though i will admit at many a time throughout this film he is a lil hard to understand when he talks. Domhnall Gleeson as the young captain was well acted too, as well as Will Poulter as the young Jim Bridger. Not only that but the cinematography was beautiful, the action when needed was realistic & brutal (im still perplexed how they went about the bear attack scene, that shiii was intense), the musical score when used was well intergrated with whats on screen and just the fact this is somewhat loosely based on true events that transpired all those years ago just all the more awe-inspiring when you see just how far this man was willing to go to overcome his injuries, survive the harsh wilderness and live.

The movie is well worth any and all praise it is given, plain and simple. Be expecting this on the higher part of any top movies list for this year or last cause it well earned it. I have no problem giving ‘The Revenant’ outta 10 a well deserved 9. So fellow connoisseurs of film & movies out there, what were your thoughts of this movie? Do you agree with all the praise and find this movie visually pleasing, or do you think this is a bore fest if ever you saw one? Do not hesitate to leave and any all your comments below and be sure to share this around the intermahwebs for yours truly right here. Once again this has been Matt, most gracious thanks for considering my review on this movie and please do stay tuned for the next one, whatever it may be, soon. Now i’m off to have me some buffalo on a stick, do excuse me 😉 …

The Hateful Eight Review

Posted on Updated on

The-Hateful-Eight-UK-Poster.jpg

“8 strangers, 1 stagecoach lodge, 1 helluva of a blizzard and a mystery most foul. Ladies & gentlemen, Tarantino presents his 8th film; his own western, Tarantino-esque version of Cluedo. Is it too late to accuse Colonel Mustard in the lodge with the candlestick yet?…”

Well how howdy doo ya moviegoers. Matt Gives You His Review here and today i have (hopefully) 2 reviews lined up for you fine people, starting with Quentin Tarantino’s 8th film that has blasted out in cinemas; ‘The Hateful Eight”. Has the film making master done it again in only a way Tarantino could do it, or are there some problems with this ‘who dunnit?’ story? Well keep an eye out, trust no one as we work our way through this caper to deduce an answer…

“Its a time after the Civil War where a bounty hunter named John ‘The Hangman Ruth (Kurt Russell) is making his way to a town called Red Rock with his bounty & live prisoner Daisy Domergue (Jennifer Jason Leigh) who is set to hang for her crimes against decent society. Along the way they come across another bounty hunter on his way to Red Rock with bounties of his own; Major Marquis Warren (Samuel L. Jackson) and a former militiaman and soon to be new sherif of Red Rock; Chris Mannix (Walton Goggins) who they agree to let hitch a ride with them to their destination. A fierce blizzard however forces the group to take refuge at a stagecoach lodge called Minnie’s Haberdashery, where they also have the company of a Mexican named Bob (Demián Bichir), the Red Rock’s hangman Oswaldo Mobray (Tim Roth), a quiet cow-puncher named Joe Gage (Michael Madsen) and a former Confederate General, Sanford ‘Sandy’ Smithers (Bruce Dern). With nowhere else to go and unable to trust anyone, all eight strangers (well 9 counting the coachman O.B played by James Parks) have to spend the night or two in the same lodge, all the while something fishy is going right under everyones noses. Will the Hangman see his bounty hang in the name of justice? Who among these lodgers is in coherts with the prisoner? Will they end up solving the mystery in time before the accomplice strikes?…”

So this being Quentin Tarantino’s 8th film ever made one  has to ask the question; does this live up to his other films? Is it any good, on even the same level as his previous works like ‘Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2‘ or ‘Pulp Fiction’? Well i can honestly claim without any apprehension that yes, ‘The Hateful Eight’ is well indeed a great flick and up there as one of Tarantino’s best. There is very little going against this movie with everything about it hitting bullseye’s left, right & center. The cinematography is some of Tarantino’s finest as one would expect and the use of the old 70mm film format recreates such a nostalgic feel like the films of old that it leaves you wishing more movie directors & projects would scrap trying to make everything in the ‘3D film format’ and do something a lil more innovative & stylish. Seriously good people, they don’t make films like this anymore nowadays. The atmosphere as created with the shots, the mood set and music accompanied is great and really does make you feel like you’re there in this dingy lil lodge as you’re trying to piece together the mystery as the movie is going. The cast is nothing short but excellent, not a single bad performance that honeslty it would take too long of a review to gush over every single actor/actress’s portrayal in this movie. The ones i will quickly touch on that I was most impressed with were Samuel L. muthaf***ing Jackson as the bounty hunter Marquis Warren (the dude just was on point throughout the whole flick and it was great seeing the guy in the forefront of main roles again), Kurt Russell who was likeable as John ‘The Hangman’ Ruth with his prisoner Daisy played by Jennifer Jason Leigh who was just as devilishy likeable, and Walton Goggins (an actor I usually don’t pay that much attention to) turning in quite the performance as the new sherif of Red Rock.

If I was to think up anything wrong someone could find with the movie it would possibly be the duration of the movie, with it nearly clocking in at 3 hours. That honestly is more a nitpick someone else would find with the movie, with the movie’s duration not really bothering me whatsoever. Honestly the really question now people will be answering would be where this ranks against Tarantino’s 7 other films, which can prove to be quite the fun lil discussion amongst moviegoers & fans alike. I myself can’t yet fathom this question myself (seeing how i myself haven’t seen every Tarantino film, with at most seeing only 3 of the previous ones with this one included to it), but for this film i have no problem giving ‘The Hateful Eight’ an 8.5 outta 10. Perhaps through the passage of time this will become a cult classic, maybe a film id even consider to increase its rating from its orignal dubbed score, though as is the 8.5 stands. So my fellow moviegoers and Tarantino fans everywhere, what did you think of ‘The Hateful Eight’? Is this film one of Tarantino’s best works or is there no topping the likes of ‘Pulp Fiction’? Be sure to leave your replies & comments below and be sure to check this movie out in your local cinema if you haven’t as of yet seen it. This was Matt, please stay tuned for my review of ‘The Revenant‘ coming very soon and, if I may, id like to ACCUSE ,,, The Major, in the lodge, with a pisto-!BANG!

X Men: Apocalypse Trailer 1 Review

Posted on

“Our favourite mutants are set to face the end of days in the form of Oscar Isaac. Thats all well and good but, BUT WHAT ABOUT WOLVERINE?!…”

Shalom and welcome everyone, Matt Gives You His Review here finally going out of my way to get my act together and get these trailer reviews done that ive promised id do. Theres a fair few left to go now (7 as of rhis current moment), so I have my work cut ot for me as i start with X-Men’s next movie in their refreshed series; ‘X-Men: Apocalypse‘. Everyone after ‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past‘ were all raving about what the next movie would, saying how it would be about this ‘Apocalypse’ chappie going up against the X-Men (yes, the blue guy in that after credits seeing using the ‘force?’ n shit. looks nothing like that in this one however). I like any moviegoer who never was a connoisseur of the comics have no idea what this character is going to bring to the table, but the brilliant thing about the trailer that it really does give this end of days vibe to this new baddie. The dude rolls up with these other mutants he dubs his ‘4 Horsemen Of The Apocalypse’ with 2 familar faces among them (i.e. Storm and Magneto). Of that it is a bit surreal seeing Magneto play lackey to someone else seeing how he is, oh i dont know, THE X-MEN’s BIG BAD GUY!!! And now his following the dictate of someone else? Not only him but Storm too? I was always under the impression she was always with the X-Men. But hey, the movie when released will no doubt reveal itself moreso then.

Still i am keen as after this particular trailer to see mutants vs mutants with their unique powers. I like the feel and tone this movie is giving (very 80’s-esque. some of these characters are looking more like their comic book interpretations here). I like the assemble they’ve got here, especially re-introducing the likes of ‘Nightcrawler’ & ‘Archangel’. To briefly touch on the whole ‘Wheres Wolverine’ schtick everyone online was complaining about (hence the lil reference in the above header quote) i admit some have been a lil silly about it. I mean its called ‘X-Men: Apocalypse‘, not ‘Wolverine With The X-Men Vs Apocalypse’. Id be lying though if at first I myself was left wondering why he wasn’t shown in the trailer, considering that he is said to be in it. Perhaps his role in this movie will be cameo at best, or maybe he won’t be in it at all, who knows. Its not like the movie will fail if he is not in it, the X-Men can make a great movie without Wolverine taking on the spotlight, they’ve done it before (X-Men: First Class). All that said and done, count me as interested & impressed by this trailer. I now throw it to you, the movigoing audience? Are you keen for some more mutant action? Are you were wondering where the f*** Wolverine is for this trailer? Or are you not interested in the slightest for this movie? Please do not hesitate to comment any and all your replies bloew or anyway you see fit. Check the provided trailer below if you havent seen it yet and stay tuned for more movie & trailer reviews soon…

The 5th Wave Review

“1st Wave: They take our power, 2nd Wave: They destroy our livelihood, 3rd Wave: They inflict a disease on us, 4th Wave: They invade among us, 5th Wave: They send in children to kill us. OH ITS ALL OVER!!! HOW WILL WE EVER SURVIVE 2016?…”

Shalom moviegoers, i’m Matt Gives You His Review and welcome to 2016. Were in for quite the year ahead so to start us off we have a movie about alien invaders and teens with guns; ‘The 5th Wave’. Is this a great movie to start off our year or is it a doomed project much like humanity is in the movie? Well keep your guns close as we venture on to find out,,,

“In the modern day a normal teenage girl named Cassie (Chloë Grace Mortez) has a normal teenage girl life, until strangers dubbed ‘The Others’ come to Earth in the form of a giant saucer-like ship. At first it is unclear what their intentions are with the planet & humanity, til they start attacking humanity in the form of waves. The 1st Wave takes away all of humanity’s power, making their technology & transports useless. The 2nd wave comes in a form of a massive eathquake causing massive damage to both livelihood & lives alike. The 3rd Wave intensifies the feared bird flu, killing a large portion of the human race off. The 4th Wave comes in the form of the others resembiling humans and suspected of invading amongst the last of humanity. With both her parents dead, her little brother taken by the government and the long suspected 5th Wave to be revealed soon, Cassie must find her way back to her brother to get him out of government custody, all the while being helped by a young loner named Evan (Alex Roe). While Cassie is treking through apocalyptic torn America, her brother Sammie (Zackary Arthur), along with other children like Cassie’s high school crush Ben (Nick Robinson) are being trained by the government under Colonel Vosch (Liev Schreiber) as soliders to fight infected humans under control by ‘The Others’, all in preperation for the 5th Wave. Will Cassie find her brother again and take him away from all the chaos? Will humanity, the last there of survive the 5th Wave? Are there ‘Others’ that have already infiltrated the government as we speak?…”

Ok so new year, new crop load of movies to come this year, so im definitely excited for what is in store for us. With that said it is common knowledge to most people who frequent movies that January is notorious for being a bad month for movies. Thats not to say that there never has or will be anything decent out this time of the year (‘The Force Awakens‘ is still out for those who wish to still see it), but it is usually a time where lackluster stuff gets churned out. So as you could imagine i had some aprehension going in to this one. I was intrigued by the premise when i saw the trailer admittedly, but to put it bluntly; I went in to this movie expecting to walk out hating it. However, surprisingly, I walked out while not thinking this is a great or flawless movie but definitely decent and left me with some things i actually kinda liked, and kinda didn’t. Put it this way, its better than all the bad movies last year i saw and reviewed (i.e. ‘Fantastic Four‘,Pixels, ‘Terminator: Genisys‘ to name a few).

A coupla things i did enjoy about the movie were some of the themes in this movie; like the apocalyptic modern world, youths having to learn to fend for themselves, systematic invasion etc. Sure many of these elements have been done before by many other movies and perhaps better even, but here they work well and give the (to be fair) pretty ho hum story a lil more flavour to it. I like Nick Robinson’s character Ben/Zombie and found when ever the story was focused on him and his platoon of other kid soliders (one played by Maika Monroe who plays the solider Ringer. She was really tough, no nonense, and ok, kinda spunky now that i think about it), the movie got more interesting and made me more invested with whats going on. Liev Schreiber as the tough Colonel in charge of these kids did well as well and has that ‘theres something about that guy i dont trust’ vibe about him. The opening to the movie and how they explain the events that transpire that lead to where everyone is in the movie was good as well. I felt the movie was at its best in the big emotional parts of the movie (i.e. parents getting killed, our main protagonist Cassie having to make a fateful choice on whether to kill some stranger or let them live, etc) and was really in its element at these moments. Where it falls flat or dare i say fails however is nearly in everything else unfortunately.

Chloë Grace Mortez is a great actress and ive liked her in other roles, but i felt in this one she was a little too bland and didnt overly live up to this badass character i thought we were going to get in the movie (her first encounter with ‘Others’, she gets shot and does a ‘Frodo’; fires aimlessly and just gives up on the ground ready to die. Yea, great badass character huh?). The “potential” love interest Evan played by Alex Roe is also just as bland and really just a token hot guy, just so we can have a scene of him bathing nude in a lake (but ooohhh nnnooo, if you dare stare at Ringer’s ass, your just a pervert. Thats not like double standard like aye? hint hint). The other characters were not that particularly memorable (one gets killed in an action scene. thats … yea … pre much all i remember of that character). Also, this movie had Maggie Siff in this movie. Her role was so small that i never picked up on the fact it was her, which is a shame cause i loved her in ‘Sons Of Anarchy’. The pacing at times is also choppy (one mintue these 2 characters are reluctantly travelling together, the next there pashing & making out in an abandoned car. Cause that happens in normal life right?). I felt the ending to this movie was also rushed and rather anti-climatic, though this could be partly due to *spoiler alert* there planning for more sequels. Im not usually one to be against such a thing but in this case i was. It was only upon looking this movie up did i find out this is based on a book series so it does make sense why they would do this, but to me personally it stinks a lot of copying off other franchises with a similar setup to this (i.e. The Hunger Games, The Divergent Series, The Maze Runner Series, etc).

Those criticisms, for me anyway, make this a so so ok movie, though im sure this movie will have its fans (my other half one of them. Glad you liked it Bub <3) and at least in this instance i can see why it would. Im not exactly thrilled to the idea of sitting through a sequel to this if they are planning to go ahead with it (though the sequel from what i heard focuses more on the Ringer character. A story more focused on Maika Monroe? Yessum 🙂 ), though i guess i am onligated to see this one through and see how the story ends. So who knows, a review of ‘The 5th Wave’ sequel may be a possibility to come on this site in the future. For now at least, and still slightly torn on the rating, i give ‘The 5th Wave’ a 6-6.5 outta 10. Maybe a more clearer result may arise in the future if i review this one again, but as of now im still a bit conflicted on the matter. Ok, so my moviegoers near and far, what did you think of ‘The 5th Wave’? Is this a movie series you are invested in seeing to the end or did this movie fail to live up to your expectations? You know the drill, comment below, share this everywhere which way you can and get your friends talking about this movie as well. This has been Matt as always, welcoming you for the bajillioneth time to 2016, hoping your all staying awesome and to always be aware. There out there … listening … to … us …… … . gots to go…………………………………………………………………

The Jungle Book Trailer 1 Review

Posted on

“Disney redoes The Jungle Book as a live action adaption. Well, surely it must have something going for it with a cast like that behind it…”

Shalom and welcome moviegoers to another (and rather belated) trailer review by yours truly, Matt Gives You His Review. Today’s trailer was one that was long released late last year for Disney’s reimagining as a live adaption for ‘The Jungle Book’. I was for the longest time planning to review it last year, especially when I started up the trailer review page, but just couldn’t seem to get my act together and do so. Not like this was a movie im dying to talk about and must gush over, more in the sense it was something promised to be done and I really wanted to do so. That’s not saying I am NOT interested in this movie, I am indeed and from what I gather (though I maybe completely wrong) on this one is movie a lot more darker and possibly more closer to the source material. Of course this may be unlikely however and we may be in for just most bland cutsieness but a guy can hope huh? I mean Disney has got a celebrity all star cast voicing this one with the director that brought us ‘Iron Man’, and while obvious the CGI here isn’t totally terrible. Im not entirely sold on this kid playing the man-cub (Mowgli) however and find his expressions just, I don’t know, weird. Not only that but this does sorta look been done and just retelling the animated story again but as a live adaption this time around, so theres that too.

Me personally I can recall I remember seeing at least 2 other live adaptions of ‘The Jungle Book’ before this one, one being produced by Disney as well before this current one being made. I remember seeing at least one of these movies and not minding it at all and had heard of the other one. I mention this cause I have no idea how this one will sit not only me and everyone else when they go see it. Theres already confirmation that Warner Bros. is getting Andy Serkis to direct their own adaption with another all star cast voicing it, and honestly I think I may prefer seeing that one over this. I am intrigued folks, I think I will most likely see this but as to whether this will be a hit or just any good to begin with will remain to be seen. And while this trailer is good for peaking ones interest and informing the world this is happening, im not sure as to these choices and the fact this does look like a rinse and repeat movie will make his movie. But what about you fellow moviegoers? Are you ready for another adventure in the jungle or do you think Disney should of left it with just their one movie and leave it at that? Be sure to leave me any and all comments below, be sure to watch the provided trailer accompanied thusly, oh and do watch out for that tiger behi-….

Movie Reviews: 2016

Posted on Updated on

“The ‘Year Of Movies’ is over, the ‘Years Of Franchises/Empires/Cinematic Universes begins…”

Shalom moviegoers and fondest welcome to the new year 2016. Last year was quite the year of movies (not called ‘The Year Of Movies’ for nothing. Last year’s reviews coming in at a grand total of 28. Surprised even at myself that ive seen so many) and this year ahead, not to mention the years future, only promise to host even grander spectacles and visual marvels as well. Some might be wondering why I am calling this year and the years to follow for the foreseeable future ‘The Years Of Franchises/Empires/Cinematic Universes’? Quite simply put that it seems even more so that the big movie companies (i.e. Paramount, Disney, Universal etc) are keeping quite extensive movie schedules throughout the years to come, with no real moment in the year that there wont be something to see and enjoy at cinemas. That’s not saying the years prior to now that there was never a schedule for movies, of plans and pushes to create cinematic universes for people to enjoy and get lost in. It just seems more prevalent now so that that is the real push nowadays for companies to do, their announcements for these movies are these big conventions and events that moviegoers and fans alike get all excited for. Where in for quite the lineup of movies and I am as keen as a cucumber to witness these projects and cast my thoughts, my criticisms, my reviews on these said projects. From ‘Deadpool’ to ‘Batman V Superman: The Dawn Of Justice’ to ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’, I look forward to these and much more, and hope you will indulge me and my humble reviews you see below you and in the drop menu above. A happy 2016 everyone and be sure to have fun at your local cinema sometime this year…
