“For those reviews and miscellaneous that don’t quite belong in one of the other menus, they’ll have a home right here…”

So the site has a lot of different reviews on different menus here on this site. From the ones i review each year at the cinemas to the old reviews i did on my humble lil Facebook  page, i have a lot of reviews. And yet there is and will be times when i want to review something that doesn’t quite fit into one of those before mentioned categories. Whether its some old reviews i was meaning to review beforehand, or something i thought about reviewing and comparing after seeing a certain movie, or whether just because heck i want to, you will find all these types of reviews and more on this lil menu. By no means is this going to be the norm or what i focus on (much like the Rantables & Trailer Reviews) but there will be content here of some reviews that i will do all specially for you. Do stop on by this particular menu every now and again frm time to time, you just never know what might be here waiting for you to see,,,

The Shallows Review

“Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water, ‘The Shallows’ proves that even the most beautiful of locations, the most shallowest of waters, the most obvious of CGI, nothing will save you from one ferociously hungry shark. Better pack some extra ‘shark repellent’ in that bikini you’re wearing…”

Shalom moviegoers and shark enthusiasts. This is Matt Gives You His Review, keeping one eye in front of me & one in the water below me for this latest shark flick to stalk our cinemas; ‘The Shallows’. Is this a shark flick well worth diving in for or is there more than just a hungry shark to worry about in this movie? Well surf on in and pay no attention to the ominously dark fin following behind you as we find out,,,

“On a secluded beach somewhere in Mexico an American medical student named Nancy Adams (Blake Lively) has come to this beach for a break from the drama & issues at home for a fun filled time of surf & sun. The happy lil getaway is cut to a violent stop when Nancy is viciously attacked by a large great white shark and is left stranded & wounded on a bit of rock, unable to get back to shore which is only a fair swim away. With the shark stalking its prey in the water around her and a rising tide threatening to swallow her rock to the sea Nancy has to not only out swim but out think this giant man-eater before it eats her up. Will Nancy make it back to shore? Will the shark add one more human to the menu? What can one do with freedom and safety just out of reach?…”

So as you can gather from that rather brief plot synopsis the movie isn’t that overly complicated in that it’s rather simple and to be honest, after the line-up of some rather disappointing movies this year friggen kudos for some simplicity. You don’t need 20 other things going on in a movie, and sometimes the movie comes off a lot stronger when it focuses on the struggles of one person and their fight for survival (think movies like 127 Hours, Buried, Phone Booth etc). It’s a great setup on a rather bitchn’ beach with freedom & safety just a small swim back to shore, but yet impossible to reach thanks to a rather hungry shark stalking the character. The cinematography is beautiful and rather stylised for a simple ‘shark in the water’ tale. There are genuine moments of thrills & spills here and there’s no shame at admitting to being on the edge of your seat in moments here. Blake Lively turns in a great performance here with the movie focusing squarely on her the whole time as she tries to overcome this ordeal with this man-eater. Honestly, the only fault I can think of with this movie would be the nature of the shark. I don’t know, the shark seems a lil too hell-bent on getting Blake Lively’s character that it can feel like it suspends a sense of realism at points (I highly doubt a shark would go to this length trying to get someone, especially when there’s a dead whale carcass only meters away from it). The simple plot and structure may also not be enough for some people expecting something more, but like I said that really is all I can think of that could be considered a fault.

I found the movie a pleasant lil thrill ride which I honestly felt was much needed in our cinemas lately (all our films lately are so doom & gloom and worrying so much on big pictures & franchises. It’s nice to take a lil break from that). I have no problem giving this tasty morsel of a shark film an 8.5 outta 10. Jaws would be proud me thinks. But im curious folks, what are your thoughts on the movie? A movie you’d be more than happy to dive in for or one you would rather keep to land and stay clear away from? Either preference or comment, please feel free to leave below and tell all your friends of this movie too. This has been Matt as always, thanks for your reading of this review, stay tuned for more soon and about that shark I mentioned earlier? Yeah, don’t look now but I think his waiting for you below ………..

Sausage Party Review

“Ever wonder what your food thinks about you and you eating/consuming them? Well Seth Rogen and his friends have and this is the answer. You’ll never look at food the same way again … or eat for that matter …”

Shalom and greetings moviegoers & food n drink consumers worldwide. I am Matt Gives You His Review, keeping one eye squarely on my plate as I write out this review for the new raunchy animated comedy by Seth Rogen and the gang; ‘Sausage Party’. Is this a hit comedy fresh on the screen or is this a highly offensive flick well past the use by date? Well better have a shopping list handy and don’t be alarmed by the food staring back at you as we find out,,,

“In a supermarket in town a sausage named Frank (Seth Rogen), along with all the other food and products in the store all worship and long for the day are chosen and taken to ‘the great beyond’ by the gods they worship, the gods being in fact people. One day a lady god chooses Frank’s packet of sausages and his girlfriend Brenda’s (Kristen Wiig) pack of hot dog buns, the both of them thinking they have both been chosen for the great beyond together. However a traumatised honey mustard (Danny McBride) warns everyone that ‘the great beyond’ is not what it seems and attempts to commit suicide with Frank trying to save him. This inadvertently causes Frank, Brenda, a lavish named Kareem (David Krumholtz), a bagel named Sammy (Edward Norton) and an aggressive douche (Nick Kroll) to fall out of their shopping cart and end up lost in the supermarket. The group sets out to find their way back to their respective aisles with the help of a lesbian taco named Teresa (Salma Hayek), with Frank getting separated from the group and learning from the non-perishables; Firewater, Twink & Mr Grits (Bill Hader, Scott Underwood & Craig Robinson respectively), the terrible truth. While Frank tries to find out more & warn everybody whilst being pursued by douche seeking revenge, his friend Barry (Michael Cera) also learns the terrible truth and has to try and find a way back to Frank to warn everybody as well. Will Frank and his friends survive their ordeal and warn everybody about it before it’s too late? Are groceries doomed to be consumed by people forever? Will the supermarket full of groceries ever discover what happens at ‘the great beyond’?…”

So I saw the red band trailer for this early on in the year and was cracking up so much throughout the trailer that I knew I just had to see this when it came out. And sure enough after seeing it this movie delivered everything and more of what I was expecting and I loved the movie for it. Fair warning from here on out, this is a raunchy, silly, offensive, R rated comedy (emphasis on that R. Do not take your kids to this, this is not for the lil ones). If sexualised raunchiness, foul language and mocking of belief structures is likely to antagonize/offend you, you would be wise to not go see this movie. Other than that and assuming you’re an open minded adult I think this movie is a riot and well worth the viewing. For such a pre miserable set of months with some disappointing movies, some being ones I was hoping would be good, this movie was like a breath of fresh air and it felt great to walk out of movie after having such a good time with it. I personally found no flaws with this movie and really this all comes down to personal choice by the end of it. If the silliness of the animation or the story are just too much for you I can understand, just personally for me I find the silliness is what makes the movie so funny, especially when it does go over the top by the end. And I also feel like the movie addresses and tackles some big issues that are affecting our world today, much like Zootopia did (belief vs fact, gay relationships, race issues etc). The cast here is also phenomenal in my opinion and they sound like they are having just as much fun voicing these characters as we do watching them. The ending was absolutely hilarious, the rauchiness was well up my alley and most importantly if I hadn’t stated it enough yet, it was funny (Seth Rogen for me rarely makes a bad movie, and this has got to be up there as not only one of his best but one of his funniest).

I can’t gush over this movie enough nor give it more praise than what I have. I find it ironic that the 2 best movies of this year have been the most adult, raunchy yet funny movies of this year (they being this one & Deadpool). I have no reservations giving this movie a well-deserved (and served) 9 outta 10. If you haven’t seen this movie and you are of legal age to see this movie, you should really go and see this movie (take your missus with ya. She may get in the mood maybe or more likely you’ll both have a wonderful time). So moviegoers, what did you think of this movie? A movie served just right with a touch of smarts about it or one that you wouldn’t even give to your dog for scraps? Be sure to leave your comments and thoughts below and to stay tuned for more movie reviews soon. I have been Matt, thanks for considering this review and…
